It is what it is
RealEd is a United Kingdom online education site created from a simple conviction: do not be mistaken: education should help people develop strong, independent minds for life. After a long time spent in education, I believe it is time to stop using children as an exams results statistics end, and start supporting them to grow into educated adults, just as we used to do!
Question what you are taught
RealEd began as an idea worth testing: I do not believe that learning should just be seen as a means to repeating rote formation, or for passing tests, and accepting assumptions.
I create and share educational resources, articles and ideas that invite learners, parents and educators to look closely, ask better questions and think for themselves. The aim is not to tell anyone what to think, but to help them learn how to think.
Build a mind that can handle life
Througout or lives,, we enncounter peaks and troughs,, and I believe A strong educational background helps to prepare people for both.
Rather than abusing young minds with narrow expectations, through RealEd, I advocate for learning that builds curiosity, judgement, resilience and self-awareness.
Education is not only there to prepare the next fleet of tax deductible 'assets;
it is preparation for making sense of the world, one decision at a time.
It is what it is, and I don't agree that it should be.
Pay attention, and never assume.
Following on from that: “It is what it is” is not an excuse to stop thinking, despite many assuming otherwise. It is a reminder to meet reality with honesty, pay attention to other people and resist easy conclusions.
Take this 'fromthe horses mouth': I do use that phrase quite a lot, and over my life a few have tthought they were clever by challenging it. They soon found out that I can't hear what they assume through the door I just closed behind them. Now that is nt a facetious statement,that is Mmy way of defending the incredible amount of difficulties that I've endured, especially in my role in search & rescue, where my daily life consisted of me dealingl
with incidents, that most will never even have to consider in their entire life. So again, another reason to never assume.
I created RealEd to raise awareness, share thought-provoking posts and offer educational opportunities online for people who want to examine what they hear before deciding what to believe.
