Born in 1970, me "helping" my dad in 1974, no silver spoon, just proof that hard work pays off, if you want it to!

Now here's a slightly different page, in fact more of a personal experience, I started, aged 4, by "helping my Dad", obviously I was more of a hindrance, but always being a quick learner, and having an inquiring nature, meant that I built a wall at the entrance to our family home, again when I was 4, which my Mum wanted, so I did it on my own, one day while my Dad was at work. Having been back since to look, I'm proud to say that, that wall still stands to this day 53 years later!

I attended a Catholic primary school, followed by a Catholic secondary school, where I discovered Sciences, and found that I enjoyed it, Physics particularly interested me, so after school I gained an apprenticeship with a company, originally formed in 1884, and I now hold the title of Professor, with quite a remarkable background in education at both Higher, and Further Education levels (FE, & HE) In various Colleges and Universities.

So just to briefly recap: In my opinion, it's important to follow your dreams!

Another desire I had was to serve on a lifeboat, so every year, over 10 years, I used to go to the local boathouse and ask, again every year, if I could join. However back then, the general system was that a son would generally follow in his father's footsteps, and my father was an engineer, so I never got to serve on a lifeboat. That didn't stop me asking though, and eventually the Lifeboat Coxwain, one day said to me: 'I'm sorry that I can't take you, however I have just heard that HM Coastguard are looking for 1 new Coastguard Officer, and you will learn all about lifeboat work through the Coastguard service, so we could always look again at transferring you over to the lifeboat in a few years, once you've achieved basic training'. I immediately went to the Sector office, and long story short, I was taken on, initially in search & rescue operations, but progressed to a Crown Officer, serving for our late Queen Elisabeth 2nd. I never did transfer back to the lifeboat, instead I controlled it! For anyone who doesn't know; HM Coastguard, despite the AA's TV advertising campaign, is actually the true '4th Emergency service', and the Lifeboat service is, as a registered charity, a 'declared asset' to the Coastguard. To put another way: if you need help in an emergency at sea, or along the coast I the UK, the Coastguard is who will answer your call, and provide that help, that may often include the Coastguard launching and coordinating  lifeboats, helicopters, fixed wing aircraft, and often Royal Navy "Bomb Disposal" along with working with Police, Fire & Rescue, & Ambulance, scenes of crimes officers (SOCO) and other intelligence agencies. So I did always maintain a close working relationship with the lifeboat! (I actually, without realising it at first, 'got the best of both worlds'). Personally, I specialised in Cliff Rescue, and in fact covered Beachy Head for many years, but due to the nature of what Beachy Head is unfortunately known globally for, I will never give any specific details about what went on up there, out of respect, and client confidentiality.

So the moral of this quick story is: how an average kid, grew up into a Professor, and a Crown Officer just because he had an Interest in learning,

Of course my Mother & Father both supported Me, as did the Mother of my only child, over the years where my life was governed by a 999 category 1, 24 hour every day, 7 days per week, emergency call out pager system, so a lot was sacrificed by many too, not only myself!

Now for a bit more context regarding this website: one night over Easter 2025, the Easter Bunney brought me an Easter Present, which of course will be seen as "hooray" and "how lovely" and "baby bunnies are so cute" in today's world, but believe me, go and have a brain haemorrhage in your sleep, which obviously causes brain damage, and then try talking to me again about 'baby bunnies'.

So after spending a couple of months struggling, and of course in this day & age, failing to get to see my GP in today's UK, I drove myself into the local Hospital A&E to try and get some help. I saw a great Irish Doctor there, and we got chatting. He asked Me what I thought was wrong with me, so I explained that I had a background, both in Lecturing, and in emergency rescue, and gave him my own diagnosis  He then immediately had me transferred to have an MRI Brain scan, and we both sat in his office afterwards where he showed me the imagery of the damage to my brain on his illuminated board for negatives, and asked me if I'd ever considered being a Dr, because my diagnosis was absolutely correct, as he pointed out the proof of the damage I'd suffered.  At this point, I want to make it very clear that my right hand jugular vein was found to have been compressed through growth, so none of today's typical assumptions apply here!

Anyway, I struggled through on my own again, until the end of November, when my new GP at that time decided, without even discussing with  me, to reduce my repeat prescription by removing the blood thinning tablets that had been prescribed for me based on one  MRI Brain Scan & subsequent Ultrasound scans to check for any Deep Vein Thrombosis (fortunately no DVT's were found) so the medication I was taking was a 'preventative action' to ensure no future possible DVT's could form. I wasn't happy about this, but this 'Dr' just thought He knew better, until Fr Christmas brought me a stroke in 2025 which lead to a blue lights Ambulance ride, so for the first time I got to travel in a 999 vehicle, on 'blues 'n twos' without me driving it 🤣

This time I was taken to another hospital equipped with a specialist unit, and after another, new MRI Brain Scan, numerous new Ultrasound scans, and 9 days in a hospital bed, my Christmas was over.

However, after telling the 18 yr old 'follow up physiotherapist', who seemed to be alot more focussed on telling me she has an NVQ level 2 'stiificat' (or a Not Very Qualified Level 2 certificate as I called it when I was lecturing) to leave,

I decided to personally write my own physiotherapy for my double brain  damage, as I really wont have anymore assumptive clowns asking me if my legs dont work because of a car accident.

So knowing a bit about the brain, and understanding the importance of good cognition due to my own experiences in first studying to be, and decades of then being a Qualified and registered Lecturer, I wrote up my own  brain physiotherapy as mentioned above, and religiously stuck to my plan. writing this entire website was part of my plan to 'exercise' all areas of my brain, plus my first website (covering my adult life as a Heritage Specialist, and authoring two books) including hand/eye coordination, and my memory (cognition), So, after that lengthy context, (sorry) I'm fairly sure you'll be glad to hear my much shorter question: do you think that me having a good education may have had something to do with me studying for, and qualifying as a Professor in sciences, which I also decided to do as part of my own physiotherapy following double brain damage? Or today's 'Dr' (of course money does talk these days, (and boiler room scams are very real) and today's little Miss 'car crash'? but I digress).

(I specifically requested that my Title was honored as Professor because I believe that Prof is far more suited to someone with decades spent in Education personally, plus I really don't want any reminders of the 'Dr' who stupidly nearly killed me, to save a few quid, and the subsequent disabilities I now struggle with. Learning to walk again is my current mission, but my Brain's doing well again, and correct food helps 👍, so a bit of brain/muscular coordination work is next on 'the list',which hopefully, wont be quite as difficult, and that's inspiring 👍

This may sound rude  but it's certainly not meant to: I believe that the changes in education from when I learnt, to today, have been deliberate.

So my Question is: why are you not using your own brain, just as famous historic philosophers like Socrates did, instead of depending on 'schools" to tell you how to change your biological sex?
